The CPI Story

I've Found Success, But it Wasn't What I Wanted

Who could say that? So many of us are striving for success…or at least to personally feel successful. Maybe we've acknowledged that our own personal triumph may not be successful from the world's viewpoint, but we still crave that all-over contentment, the rush of achievement, and the accolades of a job well done.

Then what? Was the idealized success really what you wanted? What if you've done millions of dollars in business, effectively managed employees and been considered successful by your friends and family but still craved something more fulfilling?

That's where Randy Mayes of The Success Coach Network found himself at age thirty-five. Randy was founder and owner of Springfield Janitor Supply. He'd achieved what he dreamed of, but the nagging discontent of unrealized dreams still hung over him. Attendance at a group coaching class in Chicago helped Randy discover where his true passion and unique intelligence lie: helping others discover their personal areas of success and equipping them to pursue the fulfillment of their dreams.

In the years since that first self-discovery experience, Randy has honed the program to his present curriculum in CPI (Creating Personal Intelligence). The class is a two-year endeavor meeting once a quarter for a full day of interaction, coaching and personal discernment. Attendees leave each class further equipped to determine and carry out their personal goals…goals that match their very unique and individual personality, style and skills. Randy provides email support and encouragement in the weeks between classes. During this time, participants have time to absorb what they're learning about themselves and put into action the steps that can lead them to a more fulfilling life, both professionally and personally.

Randy's interpersonal skills and background are obvious when you see him in action facilitating a room of adults with mixed backgrounds and expectations. His psychology degree, management skills, and understanding of the business professional are apparent when speaking with him about CPI. But what really convinces you this stuff is real is that it makes sense. As he shares about clarifying your purpose and prioritizing your life, you begin to nod your head…sounds familiar, I could and should do this. When he gets to the levels of competency and you mentally acknowledge the areas you shuffle around in with Conscious Incompetence, there's a sliver of a grin on your face because he's describing your life and the guy only just met you. By the time, he gets to Unique Intelligence and examining those areas that bring passion and energy to your life, you're nodding, full moon grin in place and busting with stories of your own experiences. The floodgates are open and your mind whirls, fitting all the pieces together. This is you, this makes sense and you want to learn how to put it all into place.

Completing this puzzle of you takes time. The CPI class alone covers a two-year period. Adapting and fitting the tools into place can take longer. But, as Randy so adeptly asks his class, if you do nothing, where will you be five years from now? The implied answer prods us into action. If I simply acknowledge the discontent, the frustration of meaningless work or lost potential, but don't act on it, then I've really only added to my frustration level. The investment in you and who you can be both to yourself, your family and your profession are worth the invested time and resources.

If you've found 'success' to be a hollow drum, the emptiness echoing in your head every morning as you drag yourself to work, if you're still searching for that particular area that will bring you a meaningful success beyond the paycheck, then CPI might be for you. There are, however, a few prerequisites for this journey: can you not only think outside the box, can you step outside the box and do you believe that your dreams can come true?
